Crappie Fishing in the Savannah River Oxbows

For me crappie fishing is an extremely fun sport. In my opinion they are also one of the best tasting panfish you can catch.

They are scrappy fighters that swim in large schools and are easy to catch when you find them. They are found in many areas, lakes, reservoirs, small ponds and my favorite location, oxbow lakes.

Sunshine and longer days...that can mean only one thing, it's time to load the boat and head for water! Hold on; before you pull out make sure you check your rig!

I have to give my husband credit, at the first sign of warmer weather he goes over the boat and trailer. No possible problem escapes his critical eye. Our fishing buddies, Debbie and Dwight, could have used his expertise last spring!

Can I catch fish? Can I find fish? Oh no, I'm not a fisherman after all. All of those fish that I caught last year and in the winter was just luck. Maybe I should be at home mowing the grass, or make my flowerbeds look better. If you fish as much as I do the yards certainly need help.

If there was ever a time of the year that these questions have crossed your mind March and April ranks at the top of the list of hard months to catch largemouth. Oh sure; if you live in a part of the country where the water is crystal clear and you can see bedding or better yet; post spawn suspended bass you can

Hunting & Fishing in the 21st Century E-mail

Most of us have our honey holes and sweet spots for hunting and fishing in and around our communities. Places we have been traveling to since we first began our adventures into the great outdoors.

For those places we can tell you when the fish bite and exactly where the deer will come from and go. However, on occasion we tend to go off the beaten trail and adventure to places we have never been before. Most of us roll the dice on where the hot spots will be when we arrive at a new location. Does is have to be this way?

Thrills & Chills of Winter Fishing E-mail
When the air is crisp and cold, and a deep burning fire is calling you to a catnap on the sofa, you can give in or hit the water. If I left you behind, then you haven't experienced a good old winter fishing trip!

Fact, few are on the water when it's 55 degrees in the sun. Fact, fewer people mean more free holes to fish. Fact, frozen fingers are a given. Freaky fact, stuff happens!

Spring Turkey Hunting (Hunt of a Lifetime) E-mail

Spring turkey hunting has always been my favorite time of the year. There is nothing quite like getting up on a crisp, cool morning and hearing the echo’s of gobblers gobbling in the swamps and hardwood draws. Turkey hunting is a challenging sport that gets a little more difficult each year as the number of hens is outnumbering the gobblers. I wish I had the time to tell you about all my turkey hunting experiences, but I will share one of my favorites.

Squirrels are very abundant in the South. Many people have them in their yards and we can walk in almost any woods and see and hear squirrels scampering from the ground to the safety of the trees. Squirrel hunting for me has always been a fun sport after a long deer season when I just want to get out in the woods with my friends and family.

The Bug & Me E-mail

My son Bug (Dustin) and I were getting ready for our usual Saturday morning hunt when he asked me if we would kill a deer today. I told Bug that the chances would be pretty good today. We had a front moving in with temps in the 40’s and a nice stand of oats that had recently come up in the food plot our ground blind was over. Bug is five so his attention span is a little short right now. I have come to the point with hunting that I just rather take him with me and risk the noise than leave him at the house.

It’s no secret that rabbit hunting is the number 1 small game sport in Georgia. There are few sounds as sweet as hearing the chorus of a pack of beagles, hot on a cottontail rabbits trail.
